A gorse fire was extinguished in the Dublin Mountains overnight. The fire broke out close to Lamb Doyle’s pub and was brought under control by Dublin fire brigade in a couple of hours.

There are still a number of fires burning in Clifden, Co Galway, this morning which are being monitored by fire service personnel.

A spokesman for Galway fire brigade said the remaining fires were in areas that are inaccessible but that the situation was not as serious as it was last night.

Fires blazed across Galway, Mayo and Sligo over the weekend, with all parts of Co Galway affected. Fire crews fought outbreaks from Abbey Knockmoy in the north of the county to Gort in the south, Ballinasloe in the east and Clifden in the west.
