On a recent visit to Emo Court we came across an enterprising heron. Children were throwing bread into the lake for the ducks, and trout were darting at it. The heron swooped and came away with a fair-sized fish in its beak.

They come to forage in suburban gardens, particularly in winter.
The blackcap in our garden has proved to be a thug. She spends much of her day on or near the bird feeder and attacks any blue tit or finch that approaches.
