Gardaí have seized illegal drugs worth almost €2m and have arrested four men following a number of separate searches over the weekend.

Gardaí in Carlow seized a variety of drugs worth an estimated €400,000 in the latest search. The drugs were found during the search of a house near Leighlinbridge yesterday afternoon.

Gardaí have placed an approximate value of €400,000 on the 20 kilos of cannabis herb and 8 kilos of amphetamines which were found during the search.

A 21-year-old man was arrested at the scene and is being held at Carlow Garda Station under Section 2 of the Drugs Trafficking Act. He can be held for up to seven days.

Two men arrested yesterday in connection with the seizure of 20 kilos of cocaine in Athlone are still in custody.

Gardaí from the Westmeath Divisional Drug Unit assisted by local gardaí seized 20 Kilos of cocaine with an approximate value of €1.4million during the search of a premises in Athlone on Friday night.

Five kilos of cannabis resin with an approximate value of €60,000 were also seized.

Two men, aged 43 and 42 years, were arrested and are being held at Athlone Garda Station.

A 28-year-old man arrested following the seizure of over €100,000 worth of illegal drugs in Dublin yesterday is still in custody at Store St Garda station.

Gardaí found 16,000 ecstasy tablets and 6 ounces of cocaine, which they said was worth in excess of €100,000, during the search of a house at North Fredrick St.

Garda values placed on drug seizures are approximate and are subject to forensic analysis of the drugs.
