Air passengers travelling to, from or over France may face delays and cancellations today as traffic controllers join the ninth day of action by French trade unions in their campaign against the government's pension reform.

The French civil aviation authority said half of flights at Paris Orly airport and some 30 per cent at other airports, including Paris Charles de Gaulle, were likely to be cancelled. Short-haul flights will be worst affected, with almost all long-haul services expected to operate as normal.

With the strikes also affecting flights passing through French airspace, Ryanair published on its website a list of more than 200 cancelled flights to or from France and a number of other countries including Spain, Germany, Belgium, Italy and Holland.

Flights to and from Dublin, Shannon and City of Derry airports are among those disrupted.

Aer Lingus said one flight from Dublin to Paris and one flight in the opposite direction would be cancelled today, but extra capacity was being added to its other services on that route.

Two Air France flights in both directions on the Dublin-Paris route have also been cancelled.
