The number of days lost due to industrial disputes almost halved in the second quarter of 2011 compared to the same three-month period a year earlier, according to new figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO).
As many as 572 days were lost due to industrial disputes in the second quarter, as against 1,136 days lost for the same period a year earlier.
In the first quarter of 2011, some 2,451 days were lost to disputes.
During the months spanning April to the end of June 2011, there were three disputes in progress which involved 462 workers and three firms.

One of these disputes involving a construction firm accounted for 70 per cent of days lost in the second quarter.
