The Independent MEP for Connacht-Ulster, Ms Dana Rosemary Scallon, has dismissed claims by the Taoiseach that US money is being used to back the No to Nice campaign.
Ms Scallon also denied that she receives US funding for her political activities. She is not a member of the No to Nice organisation, her spokesman said, but is campaigning for a No vote. Last week she published a No position paper with support from 57 politicians and more than 50 town commissioners and councillors. Ms Scallon opposes the treaty, and especially the Charter of Fundamental Rights declared by heads of state in Nice.
Backing the treaty means endorsing the charter, she said, adding that decisions of the Court of Justice in Europe will take precedence over the Constitution.
