Witnesses sought after cyclist dies in Mayo collision

Motorist taken to hospital for treatment after incident near Ballyhaunis this morning

A cyclist has died following a collision involving a car in Co Mayo this morning.

The incident occurred on the Ballaghadreen Road, about 2km outside Ballyhaunis, at 11.45am.

The cyclist, a man in his late 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene. A postmortem is to be carried out on his remains in Castlebar, a Garda spokesman said.

The driver of the car was taken to Mayo General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Traffic near the scene of the crash is being diverted as the road is partly closed to allow for a forensic examination.
