A female pedestrian and a male driver have died in separate road incidents in the south east of the country.

A woman died after she was hit by a car in Kellystown, Co Wexford in the early hours of Friday morning.

The woman, who was pronounced dead at the scene, was hit by a vehicle at about 1.30am on Friday on the N25 Wexford to Rosslare road.

The woman’s body was removed to Wexford General Hospital. Her identity and age have not yet been released.

The 21-year-old male driver of the car was uninjured in the incident. He was the sole occupant in the vehicle at the time.

The Wexford to Rosslare road is currently closed and diversions are in place while a Garda forensic collision examination is carried out.

Gardaí are calling on witnesses to contact Wexford Garda station on 053 9165200 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.

In a separate incident, a 22-year-old man died on Friday morning when the car he was driving struck a ditch at Gaulstown, Glenmore in Co Kilkenny.

The incident occurred at about 3am on the N25 road between Waterford and New Ross, about 7km outside Waterford city.

The man was taken to Waterford General Hospital and was later pronounced dead.

The road is currently closed with diversions in place while a forensic collision examination is carried out.
