Three men arrested after Dublin taxi theft and assault

Three men have been arrested in connection with the theft of a taxi at Palmerstown, Co Dublin, and serious assault of its driver.

The incident occurred early this morning when three men, one a 19-year-old and two in their 20s, stopped a taxi on the N4.

They threatened the driver with a knife and forced him to drive towards Tubber Lane in Lucan. When the vehicle arrived the men attacked him before fleeing the scene in his car, leaving him behind.

The driver raised the alarm and the taxi was found on fire nearby. Gardaí arrested the men shortly afterwards.

The driver was brought to James Connolly Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The area at Tubber Lane has been sealed off for a technical examination and the men are currently being held at Lucan and Ronanstown garda stations.

Gardaí have called for witnesses to contact them at Lucan garda station on 01 667300.
