Three due in court following cannabis seizures

Three men are due in court after gardaí seized cannabis plants with a street value of €410,000 during separate operations in Cavan and Meath.

Detectives from Baileboro assisted by the Regional Support Unit raided premises in Virginia, Co Cavan, and Ross, Co Meath, on Friday.

During the first search in Virginia, gardaí discovered approximately €210,000 worth of cannabis plants. Three men (aged 28, 30 and 30 years) were arrested and detained at Cavan Garda station under the provisions of section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

The 30-year-old man was released on Friday night without charge. The other two men were charged and are due to appear before a special sitting of Cavan District Court at 8pm on Saturday.

During the search in Ross, gardaí discovered approximately €200,000 worth of cannabis plants. A 24-year-old man was arrested and detained at Kells Garda station under the provisions of section of section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

He is due to appear before Court No 2 of the Criminal Courts of Justice in Dublin at 2pm on Saturday.

In a statement, the Garda said the operations involved the use of “advanced analytical and intelligence methods”.

“Drug seizures play a critical role in targeting the livelihood of criminals and reducing their ability to carry out illegal activities,” it said.
