A number of homes were evacuated in Strabane, Co Tyrone, this morning following the discovery of a pipe bomb.

The PSNI said bomb disposal experts examined a suspicious object in the Springhill Park area of Strabane and declared it to be a viable pipe-bomb type device.

The security alert has now ended. Springhill Park has re-opened to traffic and residents have been allowed to return to their homes.
