Police in the Australian state of Victoria are looking for two men with “Irish accents” in connection with an alleged assault in Melbourne earlier this year.

The incident took place on Prince’s Bridge, Southbank in the centre of the city on the night of St Patrick’s Day.

Police have released footage from the bridge that night.

It shows two men and two women who police believe “may be able to help them with their inquiries”.

According to the community policing programme, two people were standing on the bridge when two men are alleged to have started punching and kicking them.

One man is described as being in his early 20s, 183cm tall, with short black hair and wearing a Gaelic football jersey with a Vodafone logo.

The second man is described as having a solid build with a white t-shirt and green shorts.

Although the incident was on St Patrick’s night (12.30am on March 18th), the footage was released in recent days as part of the community policing initiative Crimestoppers programme in Victoria.

Each week the programme focuses on a “crime of the week” and this week featured the Melbourne assault.

The video was posted by Crimestoppers on YouTube in the past two days and was tweeted by Victoria Police.
