A man appeared in court this morning in Tralee after four detectives captured him in a park after he allegedly snatched a tray of rings from a jewellers in the town.

The four gardaí had all completed the Dublin marathon and the thief did not have a chance, jeweller Billy Nolan said today.

“Gardaí are our local heroes,” he said.

His son and daughter gave chase also but could not keep up with the thief. The four detectives were in the vicinity and joined the chase.

A 31-year-old man appeared in court today. The court heard the jewellery was worth €28,000.
