Man shot in stomach at Kerry farmyard

Injuries not thought life-threatening as farmer (48) arrested and shotgun examined

A man was shot in the stomach in Co Kerry early this morning but his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

The 32-year-old was brought to Kerry General Hospital after the shooting at a farmyard at Kilgobnet near Beaufort.

A 48-year-old farmer was arrested and is in custody in Killarney Garda station. A legally held shotgun is being examined.

Emergency services were called to the farmyard shortly after 1.20am after the man was shot.

The injured man is a native of Glencar and the parties are known to each other.

A New Year’s party may have been taking place at the time, but this has not been confirmed.
