Man in hospital after stabbing in Waterford city

Incident happened on doorstep of victim’s home shortly before 7am

A man has been taken to hospital after he was stabbed in Waterford city this morning.

The incident happened just before 7am at the man’s home on John’s Avenue, just off John Street close to the city centre.

It’s understood the victim, a local man aged in his mid 20s, answered the front door.

A row broke out between the two men, who are understood to know each other, and the victim sustained a stab wound to his leg.

He has also suffered a head injury but it’s understood this was not as a result of a stabbing.

The victim was been taken to Waterford Regional Hospital and a suspect was arrested a short time later.
