Gardaí investigating a hit-and-run incident in Co Westmeath earlier this week have arrested a man and seized a vehicle.

The collision happened at Magheraboy Upper near Finea village at about 3pm on Tuesday.

A man (38) who was walking on the road was seriously injured when a car coming from the Ballyjamesduff direction struck him. He is being treated at Beaumont Hospital in Dublin.

A man in his 20s was arrested on Wednesday night and is being detained at Cavan Garda station.
