A man has been hospitalised in Limerick after he was stabbed twice in what gardaí suspect is an incident linked to a family dispute.

The stabbing happened around 5pm on Old Park Road, Corbally.

The man, who is understood to be a resident of a hostel in Limerick city, is believed to have been walking with a female when he was attacked by two men.

It is understood a passer by who came across the injured man alerted the emergency services.

An ambulance attended the scene and took the victim to University Hospital Limerick where he is being treated for stab wounds.

A garda source said: “There was an incident. It’s believed to be part of a family dispute. The injuries involved are not believed to be life threatening.”

“One man has gone to hospital after he received two stab wounds”.

Gardaí at Henry Street are investigating.
