Man charged with murder of Eddie Fitzgerald

Twenty-nine-year-old died after being stabbed in an incident in north Dublin

A 22-year-old man has been remanded in custody after appearing in Dublin District Court this afternoon charged with murder.

William Gilsenan, of Larch Hill, Santry, Dublin 9, was charged in connection with the fatal stabbing yesterday of 29-year-old Eddie Fitzgerald.

Gardaí were called to the incident in an apartment block car park in Larch Hill, Santry at about 3pm yesterday and discovered the fatally injured man at the scene.

Mr Fitzgerald was taken by ambulance to Beaumont Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Mr Gilsenan was arrested yesterday and detained at Ballymun Garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

He was rearrested today at 3.40pm and charged with murder.

Mr Gilsenan appeared before Judge John Coughlan in Dublin District Court today at 4.30pm. He made no application for bail.

Sergeant Aidan Delaney, who made the arrest, gave evidence of the arrest, charge and caution.

Mr Gilsenan was remanded in custody to appear at Coverhill District Court on October 24th.
