The incident began in the early hours of this morning following the discovery of a suspicious object at the back of a house in Broadlands Gardens in Carrickfergus.

The homes were evacuated while British army technical officers were called in to deal with the object.

The alert was called off shortly before 7am and the householders were allowed back into their homes.
