Gardaí investigating a car bomb explosion in Dublin city last March today arrested a man in connection with the incident.
The Army bomb disposal squad and the gardaí were called to Long Lane, Dublin 8 shortly before 11pm on March 30th after residents in the area reported an explosion which left a car “totally burnt out” according to a Garda source. The car belonged to a member of the public who was not known to gardaí.
The explosive used in the incident is understood to have been “at the high end” and was a type which may be used for commercial purposes such as mining.
No one was injured in the incident but a number of houses close to the car were damaged.
Gardaí had previously appealed to a taxi driver who had picked up a fare from an injured and bleeding man outside a take-away or public house at the New St/Clanbrassil St junction, before heading towards St Patricks Cathedral.
The man who was arrested today was brought to Kevin St garda station where he was detained under the provisions of section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939 as amended.
