Man arrested and handgun seized after shop robbery

Nobody injured after two males held up staff and stole money this morning in Kildare

A man has been arrested and a firearm recovered following an armed robbery this morning in Johnstown, Co Kildare.

Two males, one carrying a gun, entered a shop in Johnstown at about 8.15am and held up staff before escaping with a sum of money.

No shots were fired and nobody was injured during the incident.

The alarm was then raised and gardaí apprehended a man near the scene a short time later. They also seized a handgun and recovered a sum of money.

The man, aged in his 30s, was arrested in connection with the incident and is being detained under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act, 1939 at Naas Garda station.

A second male involved in the incident escaped in a car which has since been located. Inquiries are ongoing.
