Man arrested after aggravated burglary in Waterford

Arrest comes after lone male armed with machete had forced way into family home

A man has been arrested in Waterford after an aggravated burglary at a house in Waterford this morning.

The incident occurred at about 2am when a lone male armed with a machete forced his way into the family home at Meadowbank, Cork Road.

He threatened one of the residents before fleeing the scene. Nobody was injured during the incident.

Gardaí investigating the incident arrested a man in his late 20s at midday.

He is being detained at Waterford Garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
