Man aged 22 arrested over family’s fire deaths in Leicester

Four victims were family of consultant neurosurgeon Dr Muhammad Taufiq al Sattar

Police in Leicestershire yesterday arrested a man aged 22 in connection with the deaths of the family of a Dublin-based doctor in a house fire last month.

Shehnila Taufiq (47), her daughter Zainab (19), and sons Bilal (17), and Jamil, (15), were killed in the blaze, which began in the early hours of Friday, September 13th.

The four victims were the family of Dr Muhammad Taufiq al Sattar, a consultant neurosurgeon in Beaumont Hospital in Dublin and two private clinics.

Seven people have previously been charged with their murders and have been remanded in custody in the case.

Two men aged 19 and 21 appeared at Leicester Magistrates Court late last month charged with murdering the four family members.

Shaun Carter (24), Jackson Powell (19), and Nathaniel Mullings (19), also appeared alongside a 16-year-old at the court last month, each facing four counts of murder.

That followed the charging of 18-year-old Kemo Porter on September 19th, who stands accused of the same charges.
