A 24-year-old pedestrian has died after he was struck by a vehicle in the early hours of Tuesday morning in Barnadarrig, Ballybunion in Co Kerry.

The crash happened on the Lisselton to Ballybunion Road at about 4am. The man was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was taken to the morgue at Tralee General Hospital.

The 25-year-old driver of the car which struck the pedestrian was also injured and taken to Tralee General Hospital. His injuries are described as not serious.

The road between Lisselton Cross and Ahafone Cross is currently closed for forensic examination and diversions are in place.
