A six-year-old girl is seriously ill in hospital after she was hit by a van in Dublin on Wednesday night.

Gardaí are investigating after the child was struck by the dark-coloured vehicle on the Malahide Road in Coolock at about 7.45pm.

She was taken to Temple Street hospital, where her condition is described as serious.

A Garda spokesman said the incident occurred at the pedestrian crossing on the inbound lane city side of the Darndale roundabout.

“ The van, which is described as an old, dark-coloured van, possibly green, failed to remain at the scene and continued driving towards the city.”

Gardaí in Coolock have appealed for witnesses, or for anyone with information, to contact them.
