Three gardaí have been injured after a car carrying three men rammed two patrol vehicles during a 30-minute incident in Co Carlow early hours on Sunday.

The incident started at about midnight when a car failed to stop at a speed checkpoint on the N80 near Clonegal.

The car was followed by several Garda units and one patrol car was rammed near Myshall, around 20kms outside Carlow town.

The car then turned towards and collided with a second patrol car on St Joseph’s Road where the three occupants were arrested.

The arrested men are all in their 20s and are being held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act at Carlow Garda station.

Gardaí are awaiting confirmation that a substance recovered from the car is cocaine.

The gardaí were taken to St Luke’s Hospital in Kilkenny following the incident, but they have since been discharged.

An investigation has been launched into the incident.
