Gardaí in Wexford are treating the death of a 14-month-old boy as a tragic accident.

The child was pronounced dead at Wexford Hospital on Tuesday after being brought by ambulance from the nearby town of Clonroche.

It is understand gardaí believe the infant died after falling down the stairs while playing. A file is being prepared for the coroner.

“It is not believed to be suspicious,” a Garda spokesman said.
