A man has been charged in court with the murder of Elaine O’ Hara whose remains were found in the Dublin mountains last month.

Graham Dwyer (41) with an address at Kerrymount Close, Foxrock, Dublin 18, appeared before Dun Laoghaire District Court this morning.

He was charged with the murder in Co Dublin on August 22nd, 2012.

During the brief hearing, which began at 10.30am, detective sergeant Peter Woods said Mr Dwyer was charged at Blackrock Garda station at 7.49am by Sergeant Gordon Wolf.

After being cautioned at the Garda station, Mr Dwyer was asked if he had anything to say.

Det Sgt Woods told the court that he replied “I do; not guilty”.

Judge Bridget Reilly remanded Mr Dwyer in custody for one week at Cloverhill prison until October 25th when he will appear at Cloverhill District Court.

An application for legal aid by his solicitor Jonathan Dunphy was deferred by the judge. Det Insp Woods said he was “aware of his financial background” and had no objections to legal aid.

Mr Dwyer wore black turtleneck jumper, black trousers and black shoes and has short dark brown hair.

The father of two was arrested yesterday and questioned overnight at Blackrock Garda station in connection with the disappearance and death of Ms O’Hara.

Ms O’Hara (37), from Killiney, Dublin, was last seen at 6.15pm on Wednesday, August 22nd, 2012, near Shanganagh cemetery in south Dublin, where her mother is buried.

Nothing emerged about her whereabouts until her decomposed remains were found in undergrowth by a woman walking her dog on September 13th on Killakee mountain, Rathfarnham.

A bag containing a number of items belonging to Ms O’Hara, as well as her mobile phone and keys, were discovered in a reservoir near Roundwood, Co Wicklow, at different times in the days before and after her body was found.
