Five men arrested in Wexford under rural crime investigation

Hammer and gloves found in van which failed to stop when signalled

Five men have been arrested in Co Wexford after failing to stop when signalled and attempting to flee from gardaí on foot.

Gardaí signalled the van they were travelling in to stop near Drumberry, Bunclody in Co Wexford on Thursday, but they failed to do so.

The van was abandoned a short distance away while the occupants fled on foot.

Items such as gloves and a hammer were found hidden in the vehicle.

The five men, who are in their 20s and 30s and include a juvenile, were arrested a short distance away.

They were detained at Enniscorthy Garda station under Section 4 of Criminal Justice Act.

The juvenile has since been released without charge, while the four others are due to appear at a special sitting of Gorey District Court on Friday.
