An elderly couple have been traumatised after being robbed in their east Belfast home.

Four men dressed in black and wearing gloves pushed their way into the house at Park Parade on Thursday.

The pensioners were forced to stay in the living room while their property was ransacked.

They were not physically hurt but have been left badly shaken, police said.

Details of the incident were only released on Friday afternoon.

The robbers made off with an undisclosed sum of cash.

It is the latest in a spate of attacks on the elderly across Northern Ireland.

On Sunday, an elderly woman was tied up and had rings pulled from her fingers by a masked gang at her home on Grand Parade, also in east Belfast.

Last month a couple in their 80s were targeted by four robbers in Bangor, Co Down.

PSNI Det Insp Michelle Griffin has appealed for anyone with information to contact officers on the non-emergency 101 number.
