A convicted drug dealer on the run for more than a year has been arrested in Spain and is due to appear in court in Northern Ireland on Wednesday.

Mark Dunford (41), originally from Waterford but with an address at Ballylagan Lane, Coleraine, Co Derry, was held on foot of a European Arrest Warrant.

Mr Dunford had admitted supplying amphetamines, but failed to appear in court for his sentencing in February last year.

He was due to be sentenced for his part in supplying illegal drugs in Coleraine and Ballymena after police officers seized almost £900,000 worth of drugs in September 2012.

Det Insp Tom McClure, who led the investigation, said Mr Dunford was arrested in Spain on June 25th “as a result of our continued inquiries and assistance from colleagues in the National Crime Agency and Spanish police”.

He will appear at Ballymena Magistrates Court on Wednesday morning when a date for his sentencing at Crown Court will be set.
