The death of a man whose body was found in the back garden of a house in Limerick on Friday is being treated as suspicious.

The body is believed to be that of a Polish man missing since December 30th. It was found by members of the Limerick land search team and gardaí during a search for the missing man in the Briarfield area of Castletroy at about 11am.

Two people are helping gardaí in their investigation into the death. “We are currently talking to two people who lived in that house at the time and they are assisting us here at the station at the moment and letting us know exactly hat they know about the incident...at this time nobody has been arrested”, Superintendent Derek Smart of Henry Street Garda station said.

The body is believed to be that of missing 38-year-old Michal Rejmer, who is originally from Poland but had been living in Limerick for a number of years. He lived near to where his body was found and worked in the McDonald’s outlet nearby.

Supt Smart said no official identification has been made: “At this time I’m unable to connect the missing person with the discovery of the body that we have at the scene, because of the condition and the area where the body was found, I’m unable to do a formal identification, which will be done tomorrow at the postmortem.”

The house has been preserved for a technical examination. Gardaí say the cause of death is not know and a postmortem is being carried out on Saturday morning by Professor Marie Cassidy at University Hospital Limerick

Mr Rejmer was a member of Dooneen Athletic Club and was highly recognisable as he always wore a bandana while running. Members of the club had organised a search in the Castletroy area for him tomorrow.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information to come forward and are carrying out house to house enquiries.
