Girl awarded €1.3m after crash left her blinded in one eye

Beth Cullen sued mother over crash in Co Wicklow 10 years ago

A 16-year-old girl who has been left blind in one eye after a car crash has settled her High Court action for €1.3m.

Beth Cullen was a passenger in her mother Caroline Barrett’s car when the crash took place at Nine Bends on the N11 in Co Wicklow 10 years ago.

Sara Moorehead SC, for the girl, said Beth suffered a significant injury to her left eye and also lost her sense of smell and hearing in one ear. The girl was doing well in school, counsel added.

Through her father William Cullen, Ballybawn Cottages, Kilmacanogue, Co Wicklow, Beth sued her mother Caroline Barrett, of the same address, as a result of the crash on November 26th, 2005.

It was alleged there was failure to steer, stop, swerve or manage the car and to have any or any adequate regard for the safety of the car passenger.

Approving the settlement, Mr Justice Kevin Cross wished Beth well for the future.
