A man has appeared in court charged in relation to an armed robbery of a post office in Co Louth on Monday.

Daniel Kavanagh (24) from Owen Silla, Sillogue, Ballymun, Dublin 9 is accused of robbery at the post office in the Mace store, Clogherhead, on April 20th, 2015.

Det Sergeant Fearghal O’Toole, Drogheda told the court he arrested Kavanagh at 11.45pm at Drogheda Garda station and charged him with the offence.

He told Drogheda District Court that Mr Kavanagh made no reply to the charge.

Gardaí asked the court to remand the accused in custody.

Defence solicitor Paddy Goodwin said there was consent to a remand in custody and the case was adjourned by Judge Flann Brennan to Cloverhill District Court next Monday.

Mr Kavanagh was granted legal aid.
