‘Love/Hate’ actor gets three weeks to decide plea on drug rap

A young Dublin actor facing trial for possessing almost €2,500 worth of cannabis has been given three weeks to decide how he will plead.

Leroy Harris (21), who had a recurring role in the hit RTÉ series Love/Hate, is accused of unlawful possession of cannabis herb at an address on Rutland Street, in Dublin 1, on October 8th, 2012, and having the drug for the purpose of sale or supply to another on the same date.

Yesterday he appeared again Dublin District Court. Copies of the prosecution’s evidence, including a Garda custody record, a certificate of analysis and a memo of his interview, were handed over to his solicitor Stephen O’Mahony.

Mr O'Mahony was granted a three-week adjournment by Judge Anthony Halpin who ordered that Mr Harris will have to enter a plea at his next court appearance.

The budding actor, who has an address at from Mariner’s Port, Dublin 1, remains on bail.

He played the character Glen in the hit RTÉ drama Love/Hate. One of his scenes was at the centre of a controversy for showing his on-screen character filming a friend firing shots from an automatic weapon and killing a cat.

The DPP has directed that his case could be dealt with at district court level, by way of “summary disposal”. After hearing that the alleged value of the cannabis was €2,450, jurisdiction was accepted last month when he made his first appearance on these charges.
