An actor who appeared in TV series Love/Hate is facing trial for possessing almost €2,500 worth of cannabis.

Leroy Harris (21), who has an address at Mariner's Port, Dublin, was granted bail on charges under the Misuse of Drugs Act for the alleged offence in 2012.

No plea was entered and he made his first appearance on two charges at Dublin District Court on Tuesday.

Mr Harris is accused of unlawful possession of cannabis herb at an address on Rutland Street, Dublin 1, on October 8th, 2012, and having the drug for the purpose of sale or supply to another on the same date.

His solicitor Stephen O'Mahony told Judge James Faughnan that the charge was a " matter of some antiquity". Disclosure of evidence was granted and is to include the Garda certificate of analysis.

Mr O’Mahony also said Mr Harris had been detained for questioning around the time of the alleged seizure. He asked to be furnished with memos of his client’s interviews in light of the matter being over two-and-a-half years old.

Judge Faughnan was told that the DPP has directed that the case could be dealt with at District Court level, by way of “summary disposal”.

After hearing that the alleged value of the cannabis was €2,450, Judge Faughnan accepted jurisdiction.

He adjourned the case for four weeks and granted free legal aid after being told that Mr Harris now works in a call-centre. He will be expected to enter a plea at his next hearing.

Mr Harris played Glen in the RTÉ drama Love/Hate and one of his scenes was at the centre of a controversy for the depiction of his character filming a friend firing shots from a gun and killing a cat.
