Man pleads not guilty to murder on Swords main street

A 39-year-old man has pleaded not guilty to murdering another man on the main street of Swords in 2013.

Jooda Akanbi, with an addresss at Ashton Avenue, Applewood, Swords in north Dublin was arraigned before the Central Criminal Court on Monday morning.

He was charged with murdering Taiwo Jamani (45) on November 13th, 2013 on Main Street, Swords. He was also charged with intentionally or recklessly causing serious harm to Mr Jamani on October 10th, 2013.

Dressed in a black suit and cream shirt, he stood up and pleaded not guilty to both charges.

Mr Justice Paul Carney was told that Mr Jamani had lived at The Bakery, George's Hill, Balbriggan in Dublin and that both men were originally from Nigeria.

He swore in a jury of five women and seven men to hear the trial, which will begin on Tuesday and is expected to last two weeks.
