A 21-year-old Edinburgh man who took to Twitter to track down an Irish woman he met on a night out has been united with the mysterious Aoife.

The attempts by David Anderson, a first year electrical engineering student at Napier University in Edinburgh, to find the 19-year-old were picked up by The Irish Times on Saturday.

The story went viral with thousands of Facebook and Twitter shares and even found itself with its own hashtag, #findAoife.

Today Mr Anderson Tweeted the happy ending to the story: “Found the girl! :D Thank you everyone for all your help and support. I have to delete the tweets now, I don’t think I’ll ever forget this”. Only hours earlier he had said he would give up looking for the girl after today.

At the weekend, Mr Anderson described Aoife, whose number and surname he had forgotten to note, as “quite awesome.”

“I was too shy to ask her on a date and I knew she was going back (to Ireland) on Wednesday.

“She was funny and intelligent and up for a laugh. She was just amazing and gorgeous and she doesn’t know it.”
