CASUALTY DEPARTMENTS at Belfast hospitals were put on high alert yesterday after a double-decker bus overturned near Central Station in Belfast city centre.
Some 30 passengers were taken to accident and emergency units at the Royal Victoria, City and Mater hospitals following the incident which happened about 2.15pm.
At least six ambulances arrived at the scene to take the injured to hospital.
A number of casualties were checked for spinal injuries but it was believed last night that all the injuries were non-life-threatening.
The bus is believed to have mounted a kerb before striking a wall and then overturning near Central Station. It is understood that the driver suffered more serious injuries.
The Albertbridge Road and East Bridge Street were closed as a result of the incident.
Bus company Translink has launched an inquiry to determine what caused the incident.
