A €2 million plan to redevelop Blackrock Park in south Dublin, to be considered by councillors next week, will include a proposal to develop an underground car park close to Booterstown nature reserve.
Green spaces at Williamstown and Booterstown have been incorporated into the plan, which involves the conversion of a piece of land known as the circus field into a car park, market space and recycling centre, as well the creation of a plaza and cafe at the main entrance to Blackrock Park.
An underground car park close to Booterstown nature reserve is also being considered to serve Booterstown train station.
There are also proposals for an internet cafe nearby and easier pedestrian access from the station to the park.
The stage in the middle of the park will be enlarged and curved seating will be installed to create an amphitheatre at the lake, which will feature a programme of events organised by the council's arts office.
There are also proposals to divert the nearby priory stream to feed the lake, which is contaminated with salt water at present.
A new children's playground is included in the plan, as well as an improved pedestrian entrance to the park opposite Blackrock Shoppiine Gael councillor and cong Centre.
Funcil cathaoirleach Eugene Regan said the objective of the overall plan was to improve the attractiveness of Blackrock Park and the other green spaces and increase their use through greater ease of access.
"The recent introduction of 18 car park spaces for users of Blackrock Park forms part of this overall improvement scheme for the park," he said.
Finance for the redevelopment of the linear park, between the Rock Road and the shore, has been included in this year's budget by Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council.
Councillors are to be given details of the plan at a private meeting next Tuesday.
It is likely to be put to a full council meeting later in May and it is expected to go out to public consultation before the summer.
