Brand Beckham is steadfastly relentless in its expansion. Fashion, sportswear, spirits, perfume, Netflix and an upcoming skincare line called Harlo by Harper from 15-year-old Harper Beckham. But before that launch, Victoria, mother of all the Beckhams – the estranged Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz and young Harper – has whipped out a homeware line.

She has collaborated with the European design retailer Westwing to produce it. “I wanted everything to feel refined, but never overly formal. There’s an ease in the way the pieces live together,” Victoria Beckham said in a product launch statement. “Home is where some of life’s most meaningful moments happen, and this collaboration felt like a natural way to explore that world through the same lens of design, craftsmanship and attention to detail that defines everything we do.”

So what is on offer from Victoria Beckham’s collection with Westwing? Fancy stuff for the table, in short, with several nods to bygone times.

For most people these days, when you say the word “charger” they think of the object you plug your phone into to top up its battery life. But long before mobile phones, there were chargers for tables. Large round, decorative pieces designed to sit beneath dinner plates, much like a version of an upscale table mat. Beckham’s Westwing chargers are made of clear glass and cost £57.99 for a set of two. Not to be mistaken for plates, which have the advantage of being suitable to eat from directly.

And in days of yore, there was a time when people – let’s be honest, almost definitely women – made butter pats shaped into curls for dinner parties. These were presented on small scallop-shaped gold or silver-plated dishes. The Westwing scallop-shaped butter dishes are stainless steel and come in a set of two, along with two dinky little knives, and cost £119.

There are wine glasses, champagne coupes, water glasses, stainless steel cutlery, napkins (white) and tablecloths (white). In case you were wondering, everything in the porcelain line is also white: plates big and small, pasta dishes and serving platters. The porcelain has a name too, the Dover line.

“Victoria Beckham’s signature chain motif takes on a new expression across our Dover collection of plates,” the Westwing website says. Signature chain motif? It was, the blurb continues: “Originally inspired by the strap of a vintage watch belonging to Victoria’s husband, the motif has become a recurring detail across her fashion and accessories collections. Here, its graphic quality creates a striking contrast with the softer, organic forms of the collection.”

So now you know. From a simple vintage watch strap, a fashion, accessories and now homeware brand was inspired.

The reaction to the homeware brand has been thus far positive. Homes & Gardens said that her collection: “Is a study in runway refinement translated for the dinner table.”

House Beautiful enthused: “Victoria Beckham’s new high-street homeware collection looks as luxurious as her clothing designs.”

Harper’s Bazaar (surely some kind of ready-made future platform for Harper Beckham?) said: “Victoria Beckham just launched her first-ever homeware range and it’s perfect for party season.”

So Victoria Beckham now has created a fashionable collection for an elegant family dinner. Including the chargers you don’t plug in.
