“With the right training, equipmeCarrauntoohil challengent and safety awareness, Ireland’s high and impressive peaks are accessible to most people,” says Nathan Kingerlee of OI. “We’re running this competition for fun and to show that age is not a limiting factor when it comes to hill walking.”

Kingerlee is offering training beforehand plus equipment, like hiking boots. On the day of the climb, the couple, together with Kingerlee and his guides, will begin at Cronin’s Yard; Carrauntoohil’s traditional starting point; and from there hike into the Hag’s Glen. “The route we climb and descend will depend on the weather and our group’s abilities,” says Kingerlee.

If you’re interested, or there’s a couple you would like to nominate, see outdoorsireland.com or tel 086-8604563.
