Liam and Eileen Meade, from Ballyneety in Co Limerick, e-mailed from their holiday spot in St Francis Bay near Port Elizabeth in South Africa
"We discovered St Francis Bay about five years ago while doing our first tour of the Garden Route. It is tucked beautifully into a splendid and beach-laden bay, one of several in the region. We come here for the warmth not just in the temperature, but in the local people we have come to know.
For those, like ourselves, looking to escape a good chunk of the Irish winter nowhere compares with the Garden Route for climate, facilities, distractions and, not unimportantly, value. A party of four can enjoy a splendid full Sunday morning breakfast with all the trimmings for €14!
Visitors will find wonderful B&Bs keen to spoil them. In addition to golf and beach, there is probably some of the world's best surfing at nearby Jeffreys Bay as well as wildlife viewing, trekking, wilderness and nature exploration."
