Promenade

Clontarf to Bull Wall, Dublin

Who doesn't love free events in these mind-your-pennies times? This afternoon, strollers who walk along the seafront from Clontarf to the Bull Wall in Dublin are in for an artistic treat. At points along the promenade 10 artists will perform or show work, starting at noon and ending just before 6pm. Look, or rather listen out, for Gareth Kennedy's piece called Shout! He is converting one of the famous concrete booths along the seafront into a bunker, and a brass section from the Artane Boys Band will perform songs by the 1980s band Tears for Fears. Other artists doing wonderful things include Amanda Coogan (above), Alex Conway, Dominic Thorpe, Sinéad McCann, Frances Mezzetti, Dennis McNulty, Alastair MacLennan, Michelle Browne and Pauline Cummins. Promenade is devised by Out of Site and Dublin City Council.

WhyNot strictly for kids, but a great way to show young minds that art isn't just in galleries.

If you can't go todayGo any time. The artists won't be there, but the promenade is one of Dublin's great amenities. Better still, cycle or get your rollerblades on.

Take a detourNip down the Bull Wall to Dollymount Strand, to see if there are any kite-surfers about or to dip your toe in the very cold sea.
