THE SOCIAL NETWORK: Brush Sheils was feeling sorry for himself at the Hot Press Yearbook and Who's Who launch party at the Workman's Club, in Dublin, on Monday evening.

“I’m the same age as Neil Young and Eric Clapton, and nobody cares what they brought out. It’s only Bob Dylan that matters,” the former frontman of Skid Row told me.

Niall Stokes, the editor of Hot Press, said that there is a “fantastic amount of talent in Ireland at the moment”. He discussed how Phil Lynott fans are annoyed that the US vice-presidential candidate Paul Ryan used The Boys Are Back in Town when he arrived on stage at the Republican convention. Stokes said that Lynott’s mother, Philomena, was especially annoyed, as the Romney campaign is opposed to gay marriage and civil unions.
