This week Roísín is joined by the singer and actor Maria Doyle Kennedy.

As well as sharing some new music, Maria tells the tale of a clever ruse used by her husband to win her attention at the start of their relationship.

“He asked me would I do some backing vocals on something he was recording. I asked could I hear it, I don’t know if I have something to offer to it.

“He gave me the tape to listen to, and he said [he happened] to be playing, so I went along . . . about ten years later he admitted that there wasn’t any band, and when I said I’d sing he’d had to hastily get a band together . . . he just wanted a good way to ask me out”.
