Architecture students from 33 countries brainstorming in Dublin are so environmentally aware that they declined even to use standard chemicals for developing film, preferring to rely instead on a mix of lemon juice, vitamin C and washing soda. Did it work? Well, yes, actually.
The fifth annual Meeting of Design Students (Meds) brought together 200 participants to collaborate on experimental ideas such as “concrete canvas” for rapid assembly of emergency shelters, as well as “guerrilla graffiti” to revitalise a run-down handball alley in Green Street.
“This is the 5th Meds Workshop after Antalya, Istanbul, Ljubljana and Lisbon – the first time without the sun,” says John Geraghty, one of Irish organisers. “Our participants will be a presence in the city for a fortnight; they aim to do a lot of good, have fun and learn a little something.”
