Property developers and architects have been lining up to view an interesting harbourfront house in Roundstone, Co Galway, which is on the market with a guide price of €565,000.

Situated at the heart of the village, Harbour View is a bright yellow house which has been run as a restaurant in the past but which has now reverted to a family home.

The four-bedroom house has spectacular views of the Twelve Bens but the current accommodation will almost certainly be extended and refurbished .

Harbour View has been owned by a local family since the 1950s, and was rebuilt around 1980s.

Throughout the 1990s it was run as a seafood restaurant but this has now closed.

The two-storey house has a total floor area of just over 149 sq m (1,600 sq ft) but selling agent Charlotte Barry of Corrib Real Estate suggests that another storey could be added, subject to the necessary planning permission.

While there is no garden to the rear, a long narrow strip of land allows access for parking and offers some development potential.

Roundstone, often known as "Connemara 4", is considered one of the most fashionable villages on the west coast. It is popular with affluent Dubliners and the literary set, and attracts golfers.

Unlike many other coastal destinations, it gets visitors all year round. Apartments and small houses in the village attract rents of €600 to €800 per week in the summer months, while larger properties can let for up to €1,000 per week, according to a local letting agent.

Harbourfront properties rarely come on the market, according to Charlotte Berry, which explains the high asking price for Harbour View.
