CO KILDARE: €550,000:KNOCKANALLY Lodge is a 200-year old country house, on one acre, in Donadea, Co Kildare, that was once the coach house of Knockanally Estate. The asking price for the four-bedroom house, which is being sold through Coonan Real Estate Alliance, is €550,000.

The recent owners have carried out a number of improvements to the 232.3sq m (2,500sq ft) house including putting in new slate-tiled floors, timber-framed windows and a newly painted, country-style kitchen. The lodge, which has an imposing front door with a fanlight and stained-glass panels, includes a livingroom, family room, large kitchen, four bedrooms, two of which are en suite.

The livingroom has an antique cast-iron open fire, and French doors to the patio area, while the family room has an open fireplace. The kitchen extends the width of the house. The rear garden edges onto the 11th hole of Knockanally Golf Course. It is south-facing with a large patio off the main livingroom and lawns bordered by flower beds and mature trees.

To the front there’s a gravelled driveway with good parking and a stud railing. The Knockanally Estate, to which the lodge once belonged, was the property of the Coates family until 1942 when it was purchased by the Irish Land Commission and divided between a number of Irish families. In 1959, ownership passed to the Rehabilitation Institute, who demolished the original house. Ten years later, a public company became the owners and a golf course was built.
