Sunday auctions are growing in popularity, and on March 9th Adam's will hold an auction in its St Stephen's Green, Dublin saleroom.
Alongside a selection of period furniture, clocks, glass, china and pictures is a collection of more than 200 lots of silver including two pairs of George II rococo candlesticks by brothers, and specialist candlestick makers of London, John and William Cafe (each €3,000-€4,000); a George III salver, Dublin 1779, by John Laughlin Jnr (€2,000-€4,000); and a George III neoclassical cream jug, Dublin 1804, by William Bond (€300-€400).
The most expensive lot in the sale is the Malachy Collar, a late 20th century, 18ct gold reproduction of the National Museum of Ireland's Gleninsheen Gorget, the Bronze Age collar found in Co Clare in 1932.
The engraved piece was commissioned by Aer Lingus and presented to John A Mulcahy in the 1970s. The estimate is €6,000-€8,000.
A selection of wine includes a Methuselah of Louis Roederer Cristal Champagne (€5,200- €5,500) and a magnum of 1961 Château Latour (€1,800-€2,800).
